Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity: There are 49,000 children and young people living in the UK with a serious or life-limiting illness. This figure is increasing every year.

Who we are:

Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity was formed in 2003 to brighten the lives of children who are living with serious or life-limiting illness between the ages of three to 18 across the United Kingdom. Since then we have granted more than 6,500 wishes and touched the lives of more than 60,000 children, not to mention their siblings and parents. Our work creates a positive distraction, reduces isolation, improves self-esteem and creates precious memories, smiles and laughter.

The Queen’s Award For Voluntary Service 2018

Rays of Sunshine is proud to have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018. The award is the MBE for volunteer groups and was created by The Queen in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen's coronation. This highly prestigious award recognises excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community.

How we Help:

Granting Magical Wishes -  Every day of the year, Rays of Sunshine gives brave and deserving young people the chance to put their illness on hold and enjoy a moment of escape. Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for the day, go to Disneyland in Paris, visit Santa in Lapland, own an iPad, meet a favourite celebrity or even a ‘real life’ mermaid, Rays of Sunshine works hard to make that wish come true.

Hospital ward wishes – benefit thousands of patients each year and have included decorating treatment rooms, purchasing equipment, funding sensory room and funding an indoor sensory garden

Hospital activity days – every week of the year our team bring sunshine to children on the wards of hospitals across the country through entertainment such as Bollywood dancers and imaginative arts and crafts. These events provide distraction and reduce isolation for children receiving long term treatment in hospital

Events – throughout the year, Rays of Sunshine hosts a range of events for large groups of seriously ill children, including; exclusive food tastings, cookery workshops, theme park outings, concert tickets and Christmas parties

The Rays of Sunshine Children’s Choir

The Rays of Sunshine Children’s Choir is made up of 16 children who have previously had their wishes granted by the charity. Our choir has the chance to experience incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunities enabling them to form special friendships and boost their self-confidence.
